Audi’s latest announcement, the addition of a wireless router in their A8 model, reminds me of the days of car phones. Why so? First let me explain their offering. Audio will soon offer an option for a built-in router in their 2011 A8 vehicle. All owners will need to do is pop in a compatible SIM card into the car’s built-in phone system. Then passengers will be able to access the Internet over the car’s 3G (or 4G) router. But much like the days of car phones, which couldn’t be removed from the vehicle, many of today’s handsets – case in point Sprint’s EVO – will have a hotspot functionality built-in, thus negating the option.
