Consensus

our Verdict

Thanks to a relatively neutral sound profile with a 0.69 slope and 55 to 19,100 Hz range, the Ultimate Ears EPICBOOM is suitable for music. This speaker also has a mobile app with a graphic equalizer and presets for changing the soundscape as needed. Users will be impressed by its Bluetooth 5.1 technology with an outstanding range of 328.1 feet, 112 ms Bluetooth latency on iOS, and 157 ms latency on Android. That said, it doesn’t support multi-device pairing Bluetooth or Wi-Fi and lacks physical ports, limiting its connectivity options.

It also doesn’t work with voice assistants, and its battery life of just 7.8 hours is subpar, ranking in the bottom quarter compared to other speakers we have reviewed. It gets remarkably loud, though, reaching 93.6 dB. Additionally, weighing just 4.4 and featuring a carry handle, it’s fairly portable. This stereo speaker has a 360-degree design, resulting in an impressive soundstage with a directivity index of just 1.91 dB. The rugged design features a P67-certified submersible waterproof, dustproof design.

Reason to Buy

  • Neutral sound profile
    • It is a great choice for music, capable of reproducing high bass, although the treble and mids sound a bit muddled, as evidenced by its 0.69 dB frequency response slope. It also has a graphic EQ and presets for customizing sound.

    • This stereo speaker has a 360-degree design, giving it an immersive soundstage.

  • Top-grade build quality
    • Made with high-quality parts and featuring an IP67-rated waterproof, dustproof construction, this speaker is great for travel and the outdoors.

  • Portable design
    • Weighing just 4.4 pounds and featuring a carry handle, the EPICBOOM speaker is very portable.

Reason to Avoid

  • Poor battery life
    • Its battery life of just 7.8 hours is poor compared to similar speakers and ranks in the bottom quarter among our certified, tested speakers.

  • Limited connectivity options
    • Lacking Wi-Fi or an auxiliary input, this speaker is limited to connecting via just Bluetooth and doesn’t support multi-device pairing.
