Automotive timepieces have always been pretty luxurious, complementing many fine rides. However, Nissan felt it needed to go a different route and has divulged details on its Nissmo Smartwatch that was specifically designed for drivers of Nissan Nismo cars. But unlike other smartwatches on the market today, this one will be the first to connect the driver to their car, providing them with real-time biometric data. Unveiled ahead of its display at the Frankfurt Motor Show going down this week, the watch is Nissan’s first step into wearable technology and is supposed to be its ‘fan first’ approach to performance, according to a press release.
The device allows drivers to monitor numerous things like the car’s average speed, fuel consumption, performance, scheduled maintenance, lap times and post everything to social media sites to let friends know what you’re doing in your ride. It can also monitor the driver’s heart rate and interface with their heir smartphone via Bluetooth and an app. It will also receive tailored messages from Nissan and, of course, tell time.
The sleek Nismo Watch will be come in three colors, including black, white and the flagship black and red. Its design was inspired by the Nismo ring and is reflected in a seamless, futuristic and ergonomic design. It will feature a simple user interface that can be controlled by two buttons and is secured onto the driver’s wrist via a simple snap-fit mechanism. Powering it will be a lithium battery that will be charged by a micro-USB, with a battery life said to last more than seven days.
