Volkswagen formally unveiled its new XL1 Concept at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show that features design cues from a sports car, is super lightweight and is supposed to be amazing in mpgs thanks to its super-efficeint hybrid powertrains. The carbon fiber-bodied two-seater claims to be able to achieve 261 miles per gallon, making it the world’s most-fuel-efficient production car (if it ever goes into production, that is). No pricing has been released, but some rumors have surfaced that it will cost somewhere in the six figure range. The XL1 will have 47 hp from a two-cylinder turbo diesel engine, which is supplemented by a 27 hp electric motor. With numbers like that, owners can expect 0-62 mph times of 12.7 seconds and top speed near 100 mph.
