Hammacher Schlemmer’s full-sized Porsche 917 replica is a 1:32-scale working wooden slot car track that’s painted the same color scheme and #20 race number, which is a tribute to the classic 1971 movie starring Steve McQueen. It even has the genuine race-worn GT prototype tires on aluminum three-piece rims and working headlights and taillights featured on it. The replica also opens like a shell at the touch of a button to reveal the Le Mans track inside.
The raceway is handcrafted to capture the realistic landscaping of the track, including period signage illuminated by working streetlights: the Esso Oil Drop Man near the Ford chicane, the Marchal sign on the famous three-level grandstand over pit row, the Martini barn, and the unmistakable Dunlop “tire” bridge. There are dual analog racing controllers to provide precise control for the 12 limited-edition slot cars that are included within the track. The cars included are a Porsche 917, Ferrari 512 Coda Lunga, and Lola T70. The 800-lb. replica will set you back $125,000.
