Do you remember up, down, up, down, left, right, left, right, a, b, a, b? In case you forgot, it was the not-so-secret code you tapped out on the NES controller to garner additional lives in the game better known as “Contra”. It was an epic 2D shooter that kept us entertained for months, and it didn’t hurt that you could play it with a buddy to the very end.
Although Master Lock’s dialSpeed Combination Padlock lacks an A or B button, it does in fact require you to enter a up, down, left, or right to unlock it. It’s programmable with any combination you see fit, though we’re not sure how short or how long that combination can be. That said, it illuminates when touched, runs off a watch battery that is designed to be good for up to 5 years (the center will glow yellow when the battery runs low), and if need be can be programmed with up to 3 guest codes – great if you’ve got roommates or share a locker at school. To make it easier to remember your code, Masterlock has outfitted it with an alpha numeric ring around the dial, though if you forget it Masterlock includes a master code that can be accessed via their website (masterlockvault.com). Other features include a Boron carbide shackle for increased cut resistance, and increased security thanks to some anti-shim technology.
You can pick one up before the school year starts, or before you head back to the gym, for about $25.
Grew up back East, got sick of the cold and headed West. Since I was small I have been pushing buttons - both electronic and human. With an insatiable need for tech I thought "why not start a blog focusing on technology, and use my dislikes and likes to post on gadgets."
