Consensus

our Verdict

The Midea Duo Smart MAP14S1TBL is a high-end air conditioning unit with a 14,000 BTU cooling capacity. Its performance is impressive, as it is able to reduce a 550 sq ft room’s temperature by 3.3 degrees Fahrenheit in about two hours. It is designed to serve rooms that are up to 550 sq ft in size and has caster wheels that facilitate easy movement across rooms despite weighing 72 pounds.

The AC unit has four modes: Auto, Cool, Dry, and Fan, and its Fan mode has four levels: Low, Mid, High, and Auto. A sleep button increases cooling by every 30 minutes, and even though this AC unit isn’t Energy Star Rated, it uses inverter technology for much less energy consumption.

The AC unit has got a pretty low noise output of only 42 dB, and since it is WiFi enabled, the unit can be linked to the MSmartHome app, which is downloadable on both iOS and Android, or set up with Google Assistant or Amazon Alexa for voice control. The unit also ships with a remote and has an air throw distance of up to 26 feet and a built-in dehumidifier.

Reason to Avoid

  • Not Energy Star Rated
    • The MAP14S1TBL doesn’t have an Energy Star Rating, so it is not the most efficient regarding power consumption.

  • No support for Energy Reporting, HomeKit or IFTTT
    • Despite being a smart AC, the MAP14S1TBL misses out on Energy Reporting, Apple HomeKit, and IFTTT for seamless automated functionality.

The Midea Duo Smart MAP14S1TBL is designed as a portable AC unit, unlike the Windmill AC 8000, which is meant to be installed onto a window. The two are also different in that the Midea AC unit has a significantly higher cooling capacity than the more affordable Windmill AC, and on its front panel, it has directional louvers that are missing on the Windmill AC.

The more expensive Midea Duo Smart MAP14S1TBL has the same cooling capacity as the Whynter ARC-14SH, but the Midea AC is ideal for slightly larger…

The more expensive Midea Duo Smart MAP14S1TBL has the same cooling capacity as the Whynter ARC-14SH, but the Midea AC is ideal for slightly larger rooms, and it also has a higher Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio, making it more power efficient. Also worth noting is that the MAP14S1TBL is quieter than the ARC-14SH.
