First Look: Parrot A.R. Drone Quadricopter (video)
It feels like we’ve been waiting forever for our A.R. Drone review unit. But finally it arrived in the mail late last week and I’m just getting around to an unboxing.
Although we saw Parrot’s A.R. Drone at CES a few years ago, it just became available for purchase last September for $299. It incorporates an array of sensors and is controlled by an accompanying iPhone app. That’s right, you’ll need an iPhone to control this quadricopter. The iPhone connects to the device over WiFi and sends a live video feed thanks to a built-in front facing camera – a perps dream.
I took it for a quick test drive after filming this unboxing. Unfortunately, the A.R. Drone was having problems staying balanced and kept flying into walls. As a result I’ve plugged the battery back in for a full charge, which take 1.5 hours – I’ll give it another crack tomorrow. In the mean time enjoy the unboxing, which ain’t anything special.
