Looks like BMW is leading the way into real in-car entertainment and information access with their newly announced iPad seat cradles.
It used to be that if you wanted on board movies you’d have to pay a ridiculous premium for mostly outdated and user unfriendly glorified DVD players that are stuck to your car seats. Or maybe balance a laptop on your, well, lap.
But the iPad dock in the photos provided by BMW looks perfectly designed into the front passenger or driver’s seat headrest, and it can be rotated and used either in portrait or landscape mode.
Can the BMW dock charge your iPod as you drive? We don’t know. And it’s probably not connected to your car’s audio system, but BMW has also announced an iPhone dock, complete with a BMW link application which lets your Apple smartphone make friends with the car’s stereos, Bluetooth phone and navigation systems.
