Gearlive.com has a review of the much sought after Sony Ericsson W800i. Currently only available in Europe and so much so, there is apparently a shortage.
The W800i sports a heavy feature set with a high rez 2.0 megapixel camera, and an MP3 player. Gearlive took it a step further in Dork-Gadgetry and paired the device with their iPod FM transmitter (the W800i has a radio). The screen is apparently clean and bright and displays at 262k colors. Battery life is surprisingly good considering it is both an MP3 player and phone; many of us have worries about said convergence devices. A colleague recently questioned me as to whether the MP3 decoder in the Sony Ericsson S710 was hardware or software based. I didn’t know for either phone, but according to him hardware based decoders use far less power – makes sense, and let’s just hope the same applies for the Sony Ericsson W800i.
Gearlive.com summed up their review with the claim that the Sony Ericsson W800i puts the Motorola’s ROKR to shame, and gave the W800i a stellar 9/10.
