Logitech wants you to toss that media set top remote control. Well sort of… Introducing the new Logitech Harmony Smart Control. This is a mutlifaceted package which includes a “Simple Remote”, Harmony hub and companion iOS/Android app. Working together, the package boasts complete unfettered control over your TV, media and even your video game consoles.

The main attraction here is easily the app for iPhone and Android devices. It’s free and available now. It turns your smartphone into a remote control. We’ve seen such before. But Logitech offers up to 50 channel icons and gesture control. Swipe and tap across the screen on your mobile device to make changes to volume, change channels, fast-forward, rewind, pause/play and skip forward/back. But that not it.

The companion app can really do away with the army of remotes invading our modern digital lives. The app supports a staggering 225,000 home theater devices. Plus the Harmony app will remember power and input settings for your various devices and automatically make changes accordingly.

The Included Harmony Hub will transform a WiFi signal from your mobile phone into a recognized Bluetooth signal of which your home theater can understand. This includes remote access to Netflix, Hulu on PS3, Wii and Xbox 360.

i did mention this was a three-pronged attack. Last but surely not least is the Harmony Hub and standar remote control. The remote lets others take command of the home theater in case you and your phone are away. The Harmony Hub lets you control your home theater setup while behind solid objects such as a closed cabinet. No more pointing your device at the receiver and there not even a need to be in the same room.

The Logitech Harmony Smart Control is available now for pre-order only for $129.99
