Xbox 360 Disc Format Update Coming Soon, To Included Enhanced Gaming

Today, we got word from Major Nelson that Microsoft would eventually update the Xbox 360′s software to make it compatible with a new disc format.  Pretty vague, huh?  We thought so and a result held off posting on the news until we got wind of some additional deets.

Now Eurogamer is reporting, via a solid source, that the new disc format will now unlock up to 1GB of storage, previously used for security and other data, to gaming data, bumping capacity to a few hundred megs shy of 8GB.  Skeptical?

Well, consider that Microsoft is handing out a free copy of Halo Reach to all of those that are admitted to the test release of the program.  Makes a bit more sense now, don’t it?
