Why California Edison hasn’t rolled out smart meters is beyond my understanding, but it might actually be a good thing according to Inhabitat. In Texas numerous customers have complained about sky rocketing bills after the meters had been installed. Insult to injury, there are all sorts of privacy concerns to tackle. Take for instance the issue of law enforcement sanctioning customer records to sniff out marijuana growers.
If you ain’t heard, smart meters provide a detailed breakdown of a household’s energy consumption. Furthermore, it eliminates the need for meter readers to physically visit a property, which not only makes the whole process more efficient (and hopefully energy cheaper), but reduces the power company’s carbon footprint.
