We must have been fooling ourselves when we thought the Angry Birds phenomenon had finally subsided. The game, which originally exploded to popularity on Apple’s iOS platform, has been repurposed as a movie, a board game, an iPhone case and probably a variety of other products that we’d rather just not know about.
So it’s really no surprise to us to see the Angry Birds Speaker Helmet Pig. In other words, it wasn’t a question of if, but when we’d see such a device. It’s actually pretty fitting since its dock is compatible with the iPhone, the device upon which Angry Birds got its start.
Included is a remote and 2.1-channel speakers, which we assume means left/right and a subwoofer. It will cost $119.99.
Gear4 makes the speaker. They’ve also got plans for a Red and Black Bird version. It’s cheaper, but doesn’t include an iPhone dock. Instead you’ll need to plug in your tablet or MP3 player via a headphone jack. However, they’re including a smartphone dock that appears to mimic the wood pieces found in the game. It will cost $89.99.
There is no word on when the speakers will arrive, but we’d expect sometime later this month or in early October to accommodate holiday shopping.
