The 15 inch Chromebook won’t turn the heads of those who are looking for a high end laptop, but for those who simply want a reliable companion to work on academics and other paperwork, the Acer Chromebook 15 is as reliable as they come. Featuring an easy to use keyboard, a durable metal chassis, and quiet performance, this is a perfect addition to our lists for Best Ubuntu Laptop, the best laptop, and Best Laptop for Kids, even with a dim display and low storage.

Why We Like It – Acer Chromebook 15

The Acer Chromebook 15 relies on barebones performance as it’s primary selling point. With a fair battery life and full HD picture, this Chromebook will last for as long as you can.

  • Keyboard is comfortable to use
  • Metal chassis improves durability
  • No fans keep it quiet
  • Display isn’t that bright
  • Lacking in offline storage

Featuring an Intel Celeron CPU and Intel HD graphics, this 15 inch display won’t be playing Doom Eternal on Ultra High settings. However with the included Chrome OS and dual core technology, the Acer Chromebook 15 is perfect for using android apps and browsing the internet with Google Chrome. Acer’s laptop does what it needs to do, and not much else. Still, those looking for a laptop with a bit more power can find just that with the Lenovo ThinkPad T580.

Coming in with a four cell Lithium ion battery, the Acer Chromebook 15 claims to have a 12 hour battery, and by all means it’s an accurate depiction of battery life. When it comes to menial tasks such as typing and browsing the internet with wi-fi, the Acer Chromebook 15 will last all day, only facing serious battery drain when faced with strenuous tasks.

The Acer Chromebook 15 comes equipped with two USB type c ports, two USB ports, and a DisplayPort over USB type C. A frankly unusual port selection, but a welcome one nonetheless. The inclusion of USB type C is surprising, even more so with DisplayPort. With this type of laptop, HDMI would more likely be the better option, but to each their own.

Build Quality

A feature the Acer Chromebook 15 has that sets it apart from the competition is the inclusion of a metal chassis. Other laptops, and even other Chromebooks are constructed out of plastic, which at times can feel flimsy and unreliable. This isn’t the case with the 15 inch screen Chromebook. The first time you hold Acer’s laptop you can tell that it will last a long time, even with a few drops here and there. Feeling even more solid than the Dell XPS 13 9370, the Acer Chromebook 15 is one tough cookie.

The first major thing to note about the Acer Chromebook 15’s value: if you plan on using it for the long run, either get a cloud storage plan from google play or invest in a storage drive. Due to the Chromebook’s flash memory, there’s not much in terms of offline storage other than a 32 GB hard drive. Should you want a laptop with more memory, the Acer Aspire E 15 offers plenty of storage.

Acer Chromebook 15 Wrap Up

If you want the bare basics of a good laptop, the Acer Chromebook 15 is more than worth taking a look at. With a durable metal chassis, quiet performance and comfortable keyboard, Acer’s Chromebook is adept at focused productivity, even with issues regarding the screen and memory. For what it’s worth, the Acer Chromebook 15 is a powerful device ready for work.
