Product Snapshot

Overview

The LG 40WP95C-W is a mid-range computer monitor released in February 2022. This LG monitor offers a unique 5120×2160 display resolution, which is the same vertical height as a 4K monitor with 33% more horizontal screen. This ultrawide monitor configuration helps you see more at once than many of the top-rated computer monitors.

As a productivity-focused monitor, the LG includes many connectivity options, including two Thunderbolt 4 ports for daisy chaining, a DisplayPort, and two HDMI 2.0 ports. The LG 40WP95C-W uses Nano IPS technology for more color reproduction but sports a low contrast ratio and lacks local dimming. It has a 72Hz refresh rate. If you’re looking for a curved monitor, consider our Samsung C27RG5 review or our Samsung UR59C review.

Consensus

our Verdict

The LG 40WP95C-W is an excellent productivity display with a unique 5120×2160 display resolution that creates ultra-sharp text, vivid colors, and a fantastic overall image quality. However, the monitor struggles when it comes to contrast, with a tested 1,087:1 native contrast ratio. This results in disappointing black levels. It also features a mediocre 72Hz refresh rate.

The monitor is designed with connectivity and productivity in mind. It features two HDMI 2.0 ports and two Thunderbolt 4 USB-C ports, which allow you to daisy-chain up to two monitors for your laptop using a single cable, all while charging it at the same time. These features make this monitor a great choice for productivity and office users.

Reason to Buy

  • Excellent Image Quality
    • The LG 40WP95C-W ultrawide monitor shines in color reproduction with a 94.4% color accuracy rating and a 99.5% color gamut, which places it in the top 10% of monitors that were tested for this feature. The monitor also comes properly pre-calibrated, so you don’t have to do any calibration yourself.

  • Superb Text Quality
    • Due to this monitor’s high native resolution, you’ll easily see text and fine details on your screen. This is what makes this an excellent productivity monitor.

  • Lots of Screen Real Estate
    • The LG’s ultrawide monitor configuration saves you tons of extra space to run applications side-by-side. This way, you can multitask more quickly than you can on a display with a standard aspect ratio.

  • Thunderbolt 4 Compatibility for Daisychaining
    • This monitor sports two Thunderbolt 4 USB-C ports, allowing you to daisy-chain two laptops to your laptop using a single cable. It also allows you to charge your laptop at the same time. This makes this an incredibly flexible monitor for productivity users.

Reason to Avoid

  • Disappointing Refresh Rate
    • The LG 40WP95C-W only offers a 72Hz refresh rate, which makes it unideal for watching fast-paced movies or playing video games. It’s only partially compatible with variable refresh rate (VRR) technology.

  • Low Native Contrast Ratio
    • This monitor features a relatively low contrast ratio of 1,087:1, which means it will struggle to reproduce deep blacks. This is especially apparent when highlights appear in dark scenes, which wash out the blacks and make them gray.

The HP E45c G5 monitor is much more comprehensive, with a 44.5-inch display, than the LG’s 40-inch display. The HP also performs better in terms of color reproduction, but the LG still offers a higher native display resolution. Both options offer plenty of connectivity and ergonomics, but the HP is more expensive. Read our HP E45c G5 review to learn more.
