Consensus

our Verdict

As gaming monitors go, the Gigabyte M32U performs very well across many metrics. The monitor produces fast command responses and has an input lag of 11.7 ms, which ranks in the middle of the road compared to other gaming monitors. Additionally, the refresh rate is 144 Hz, which provides for extra-smooth motion handling during fast-paced scenes.

Display-wise, the monitor has issues with the DCI color gamut, which tests in at 88%, and lands in the bottom third of our tested gaming monitors. It also has a low 352 nit peak brightness, meaning the image degrades in bright rooms. Lastly, the viewing angles are narrow and experience color washout at off-center positions. However, the build quality is impressive and lightweight, as the body is made of high-quality plastic, although the ergonomic options are limited, given the monitor doesn’t swivel.

ReasonS to Buy

  • Low input lag
    • The game-centric monitor delivers a rapid command input response that’s good enough for competitive gaming, with an 11.7 ms input lag, putting it slightly above average compared to other tested gaming monitors.

  • Outstanding refresh rate
    • The monitor drivers smooth motion handling for an incredible gaming experience, given its 144 Hz refresh rate.

  • Great build quality
    • The monitor is built with plastic, but it’s a sturdy and premium material that doesn’t creak or flex.

Reason to Avoid

  • Subpar image quality
    • The monitor fails to produce the most vibrant range of colors, given this gamut is limited, at 89%.

    • It struggles to produce high-quality images in bright rooms since peak brightness caps out at 352 nits, which is in the bottom half of our certified gaming monitor tests.

    • The contrast ratio, at 1043:1, is right in the middle of the road compared to other tested monitors, meaning that blacks look gray, especially in dark rooms.

  • Slow response time
    • The monitor experiences some blur when shifting colors during fast-paced gaming, given its tested 11.9 ms response time, which is in the bottom 10% of gaming monitors.

  • Limited ergonomics
    • The monitor cannot swivel or rotate to the portrait position, and it is challenging to find the perfect ergonomic position. However, it does have an impressive tilt range.
