Why We Like It – Epson Expression Photo HD XP-15000

The Epson Expression Photo HD XP-15000 prints fast enough that you’ll be more than satisfied if you’re using it solely as a home text printer. However, considering the printer uses Claria Ultra HD Inks, the print quality of photos is stunning. You’ll be able to print memorable photos of your family at photographer-levels of clarity! For additional options for high-quality photo prints, check out our reviews of the Epson Artisan 1430, Epson SureColor P400, or the Canon PIXMA Pro-100.

Pros
  • Monochrome and Color Pages Print at Almost the Same Speed
  • Prints Both Monochrome and Color Pages with Stunning Accuracy
  • A plethora of Mobile Printing Options
Cons
  • A Little on the Slow Side
  • High Running Costs

Speed

The Epson Expression Photo HD XP-15000 Photo Printer is rated as having a print speed for monochrome pages at 9.2ppm and 9.0ppm color pages. While we know this is a little on the slower side, you have to appreciate that when it comes to print, Epson made monochrome and color pages print at almost the exact same rate. In that regard, consider it the best photo printer and the best printer for heat transfers. Still, check out the Canon TS9521C Wireless Crafting Printer if you want something faster or looking for the best printer for cardstock too.

Print Quality

Epson Expression Photo HD XP-15000 Wireless Wide Format Printer uses the new Color Claria Photo HD Inks, which allows it to print photographer-quality photos. In fact, these ink cartridges were mainly reserved for photographers until recently. Borderless prints come out stunning and bright, and printing text on plain paper is legible right down to the lowest point setting. Any craft printing or photo printing, including what the Silhouette Crafting Printer churns out, will have a hard time keeping up.

Efficiency

It’s hard to calculate running costs for a printer that uses six ink cartridges instead of just two or four. But people have tried, graciously, and the number they came up with hovers around five cents per monochrome page and 14 cents per color page. While this may not sound like much more, anyone who’s not a professional photographer should be wary, as these numbers can add up very quickly. Of course, you can always consider the HP OfficeJet 3830 if you’re looking to keep running costs down.

Advanced Features

The connectivity options on the Epson Expression Photo HD XP-15000 include Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi direct, wired USB connections, and a USB host. Switching gears to mobile connectivity, options include the Epson Connect suite of mobile printing options, Android printing, Apple AirPrint, Fire OS printing, Google Cloud Print, and Mopria. Long story short, if you have a phone connected to the printer in some manner, you can print something without problems.

Value

The Epson Expression Photo HD XP-15000 comes with a 200 standard A3 printer paper cassette in the front and a 50-sheet feeder, mainly for wide-format and premium photo paper, in the back. And while the printer is on the small side for a wide-format printer, it’s still large enough that smaller home offices may find it a little difficult to find a spot for it. Of course, this depends on the size of the office and the desk.

Epson Expression Photo HD XP-15000 Wrap Up

The biggest drawback of the Epson Expression Photo HD XP-15000 is the high running costs. While they are common with photo printers, it can get especially high with photographer-quality prints if you’re not a photographer. Still, with a plethora of connectivity options and stunning printouts, can you really argue with the results?
