Toshiba unveiled two new HD-DVD players, the HD-XA1 and HD-A1, which will be released in March 2006.
The higher end unit, the HD-XA1 will cost $799.99 and the HD-A1 will ship for $499.99.
Both units will play your HD-DVDs in glorious 720p or 1080i. Both support the HDMI interface (most likely for its HDCP copyright protection). Their video decoding is powered by a Broadcom decoder chip.
The HD-XA1 and HD-A1 support also support the latest and greatest in audio technology. They’ll support both Dolby Lab’s new Dolby TrueHD and the new DTS-HD.
I hear my television crying out for one of these. Oh wait, that’s me.
