Back in the early days of Apple, they offered up free computers to any school that was willing to have ‘em. The idea, or should I say scheme, was that the kids used them in school, took their work home, and then mom and dad had to purchase an Apple. Although a great strategy it didn’t pan out. Apples proved too expensive and the PC force was too strong.
Why am I telling you this? Well, looks like Apple/Steve Jobs recently offered its OS to the MIT $100 laptop computer program. The founders of the program declined because of the OS’s proprietary nature – it ain’t open source. To add insult to Steve’s injury, it is also reported that Bill Gates recently met with the founder, Nicholas Negroponte, of the $100 laptop program.
Apparently Negroponte will present the $100 windup laptop at the World Summit on the Information Society Tuesday (today?).
Grew up back East, got sick of the cold and headed West. Since I was small I have been pushing buttons - both electronic and human. With an insatiable need for tech I thought "why not start a blog focusing on technology, and use my dislikes and likes to post on gadgets."
