There are a million – no scratch that, a gazzilion iOS clock apps. They were kind of a big deal when the iPhone first arrived, but as with all apps, they’ve become ubiquitous. Seriously, who needs another clock app for their iPad?
We do, and it’s called the Chameleon Clock. It’s probably the smartest iOS clock we’ve ever seen. Not smart in the sense that it can solve world hunger, or launch a space shuttle. Smart because it does something unique that we haven’t seen in an app of this ilk, and it’s dead simple. The Chameleon app uses the iPad or iPhone’s camera to sample the backround and produce a matching color, which upon a white or black clock can lays over it. That’s cool and all, but we really like is that live camera feed option, which instead of producing a color, shows a realtime image of whatever is behind your iOS device. There is also some intuitive controls, allowing you to control the clock’s color (black or white) with a tap of the screen, or change the transparency by swiping up or down.
The Chameleon clock is available now for $0.99.
