We’ve talked a lot about the importance of picking the right screen size for your 4K TV or monitor, because it really does matter: A large screen is necessary to see all the pixels on prominent display, while a small screen won’t really show the difference between 4K and 1080p at all. That won’t be a problem with Phillips’ new monitor, which offers a massive 43-inch 4K screen and makes an entrance as a contender for the top gaming monitors of 2019.
Normally size isn’t as important for ultra HD monitors (mostly because we sit closer to them) but it’s still smart to go around 27 inches or higher to note the difference. With the Philips BDM4350UC, that mark gets overshot with a huge IPS panel rated at a 3840×2160 resolution and a 16:9 aspect ratio.
That’s a whole lot of screen real estate, but assuming that you have room for it, the Philips BDM4350UC will make an amazing companion for a powerful gaming rig. The response time is understandably not as low as some smaller screens but at 5 milliseconds you shouldn’t have a problem. The 10 bit color support and high brightness rating also help ensure that pictures stay clear and vivid even when playing demanding games. Ports include USB 3.0, VGA, DisplayPort, and HDMI 2.0. We take this opportunity to once again remind you that you’ll need to use those HDMI or DisplayPort connections for a true 4K connection.
Of course, while the emphasis is on gaming, with a screen this large you could easily use it for whole-house entertainment, especially in a smaller living area. It’s disappointing, then, that the screen has no real swivel or tilt options. You can, however, mount it to the wall if you prefer.
Perhaps most ideal of all, the price is a reasonable $800, which shows that Phillips is also paying attention to the falling prices of 4K screens and wants to stay competitive. When it comes to a masterful gaming experience, this may be your best bet by far.
