Dell Alienware Aurora (2018) Is the Ultimate Mainstream Gaming PC

When shopping for a new gaming display, our Top Gaming Monitors Comparison will be very handy. Dell’s Alienware line always deserves consideration from serious desktop gamers, even if it’s just to see what the latest features are. With the announcement of a new Aurora, a lot of gamers (us included) were wondering,

First, the Aurora isn’t supposed to be the highest-end gaming machine ever – instead, it’s supposed to be a mid-tier desktop with enough power to handle gaming needs present and future, but a price that’s far more affordable than the monster classes: It’s also VR ready for popular sets like Oculus and HTC Vive.

This Alienware model looks pretty normal – and that’s okay.

Second, the stats are highly customizable. You can use options up to an Intel Core i7 Extreme Edition for your processor, and you have multiple single and dual GPU options that include Nvidia GeForce GTX 950, AMD Radeon R9 370, or higher end options like the GeForce GTX 1080. Ram can go all the way up to 32GB, which is plenty enough speed for demanding activities, especially when you consider the included 16GB of an overclocked Kingston Fury X running at 2400MHz. Storage, meanwhile, starts at 1TB but the PC comes with five storage bays so you can customize it with basically however much storage you want. Connections are largely normal, but the Gigabit Ethernet is Killer e2400, a higher-performance standard that is particularly well-suited to gaming.

“What’s different here, and why should I care?” Fortunately, as we saw at E3, the Aurora knows exactly what it’s doing, so take a look at the best gaming desktops of 2018, and then check out how this gaming PC compares.

A final note on appearance – this particularly Alienware Aurora model really tones down the usually extravagant Alienware flare. It’s a futuristic-looking, spaceship-inspired box, but it’s still unmistakably a pretty normal computer tower, too.

Prices start at $800 for base specs, so as we mentioned you won’t have to worry too much about price unless you really crank up the features to the max. This versatility makes the Aurora a great middle of the road option if you ask us.
