It wasn’t more than a few weeks ago that Google added HBO Go to the list of Google Chromecast compatible apps. Missed that announcement? Well, then you might wanna skip work, scurry home, and dig into some Boardwalk Empire. That’s what I did last week. And now, while you’re at it, you can enjoy 10 new apps.
Which apps were added you ask? VEVO, Red Bull.TV, Songza, PostTV, Viki, Revision 3, BeyondPod, Plex, Avia, and RealPlayer Cloud. The first seven apps will deliver actual content, where as the latter three are designed to supply your own media to the big screen.
I suggest you download Avia, as it’s completely free and delivers localized content to your Chromecast. Plex is a paid only app that costs $4.99 on both Android and iOS. I can’t speak to its validity as I’ve never used it. Realcloud Player allows you to push your content to the cloud and provided you’ve got your login details you can view the content from any browser with an Internet connection.
According to Google the aforementioned apps, with Chromecast compatibility will begin to roll out over the next few days. That said, Avia seems to have been already updated as the title reads “Avia Media Player (Chromecast)”. And last, but not least, you can “cast” anything from Google’s Chrome browser whilst on your laptop.
