Consensus

Reason to Buy

  • Suitable picture quality for the price
    • Support for VRR and impressive motion handling make it a good gaming and casual viewing display. Additionally, it produces accurate, vibrant colors, as it has a tested 94.94% color gamut, which ranks high for a 4k TV.

  • High contrast ratio
    • Blacks are deep during dark scenes in dark rooms, given its 8,379 : 1. This is above average for 4k TVs (ref).

  • Fast motion handling
    • Gamers will appreciate the fast command inputs, as the TV has an 11.8 ms input lag, which ranks highly for 4k TVs. The pixels change smoothly, with hardly any blur; tests reveal the TV has a 5.8 ms response time.

  • VRR support
    • Gaming visuals are made more consistent and experience less stutter and tearing because of the VRR support.

Reason to Avoid

  • Below average brightness
    • Both HDR and SDR content dulls and washes out when in brightly lit rooms, as tests show the peak brightness caps at 327 nits, which is below average for 4k TVs.

  • Low refresh rate
    • During rapid scene changes, the display experiences some tearing because the refresh rate is only 60 Hz.

  • Narrow viewing angles
    • Off-center viewing has lower brightness and color washout, given viewing angles a 28 degrees, which is below average for 4k TVs.

Both the Hisense A65K and Hisense U6 are budget 4k options, but they present a few stark differences. The U6 has a much better contrast ratio because it comes with a local dimming feature, meaning the TV produces much deeper black levels when viewing dark scenes in dark rooms. However, the local dimming feature does cause a blooming effect, whic the A65K does not succumb to. Lastly, the U6 also has a slightly better HDR peak brightness and color gamut, meaning colors will be more accurate and hold up in bright rooms. For more on this brand, check out our Hisense U8H TV review.

The Hisense A65K and LG UR8000 are closely related, and both are budget models. The largest difference between the two is that the Hisense A65K has a much wider color gamut, meaning it produces more accurate and vibrant colors; it is also slightly better in terms of peak brightness and contrast ratio. Both TVs have narrow viewing angles, making them poor for viewing with larger audiences However, the LG produces much finer low-content quality smoothing– which is better for streaming low-bitrate content casually rather than viewing HDR. The Insignia F30 and the Hisense A65K are affordably priced 4k TVs. Overall, the Hisense has a much better picture quality. The F30 only has a contrast ratio of 1,378 : 1 compared to the A65K’s 8,379 : 1. Additionally, the Hisense has higher peak brightness, a wider color gamut, and offers gaming-enhancing features like VRR. However, the F30 has an advantage over the A65K in low-quality smoothing. When processing low-quality content, the A65K experiences high levels of pixelation. If you want to see a 4k TV that offers more full gaming features, check out our TCL Q750G QLED TV review.
