Now Honor appears to be bringing the hardware approach back — bigger, bolder, and reportedly quite a bit thicker. Leaked footage circulating in Chinese media suggests the company has actually built a working version, and the footage raises as many questions as it answers.

A leaked hands-on video shows Honor’s motorized gimbal in action — along with an unmistakably chunky phone.
According to reports citing footage circulating on Weibo, someone presses a dedicated button, at which point a camera module rises from the rear housing like a Ring doorbell snapping to attention. The gimbal reportedly lifts above the phone body and physically follows a moving subject. It looks genuinely impressive — and genuinely thick.
The camera island appears even bulkier than the already substantial body. Think less “sleek flagship” and more “2012 OtterBox energy.”

The more pressing concern is the mechanical complexity itself. Moving parts inside a device you drop, pocket, and sweat on raise obvious durability questions. Battery drain from a motorized gimbal is another unknown. Software stabilization has gotten remarkably good — capable enough that a physical approach needs to deliver a dramatic, visible improvement to justify the added bulk and potential fragility.
Honor plans an official showcase at WAIC in China on July 18. That’s when pre-launch promises meet actual demonstration.
