Translucent electronics were a defining aesthetic of the late 1990s, and Sony is reviving that look for the PS5 era. The PlayStation Prism Collection arrives with three new Disco-Era Gadgets inspired DualSense wireless controllers and matching console covers, each built around a see-through shell that puts the hardware’s internals on display. The specs underneath, however, have not changed.
Design and Colors
The Prism Collection treats transparency as a design statement rather than a technical upgrade.
Each controller uses a high-gloss transparent rear shell that exposes internal components and structural assembly. The front face remains visually close to the standard DualSense.
The three colorways each behave differently through the translucent material. Flare Orange softens into a rose-like tone where layers overlap, Emerald Green picks up visual depth, and Graphite Gray lands as a restrained monochromatic look.

We wanted to bring back the iconic see-through trend of the late ’90s in a fresh, modern way that complements the PS5’s industrial design.

The matching PS5 covers offer a more limited view into the console, showing the fan and surrounding components, with a metallic finish on the central panel.

What You’re Actually Buying
Sony has not announced changes to the DualSense’s haptics, adaptive triggers, battery, or wireless connectivity.
The console covers are replacement exterior panels for your existing PS5. Sony has not announced a firmware requirement for the Prism DualSense controllers.

Sony has not published independent durability data covering scratch resistance, finish discoloration over time, or any effect on heat dissipation. No third-party testing was available before the February 2027 launch.
Availability is planned through PlayStation Direct in the United States, United Kingdom, and supported European markets. Sony notes that regional differences are possible for console-cover distribution.
The standard DualSense retails for $69.99, putting the Prism version at a $15 premium for the transparent finish. Sony has announced no functional changes to the DualSense’s core hardware, so the performance you get is identical to what you already own.
Whether that visual upgrade justifies the price depends entirely on how much the look matters to you. The controller performing inside the shell will be the same either way.
