At 50.20 cm wide, narrower than most carry-on bags and roughly half the width of a standard bicycle, the world’s narrowest drivable car reframes how little space a functional automobile actually needs.
Guinness World Records officially confirmed the record in September 2026. The organization recognized Italian mechanic Andrea Marazzi of Bagnolo Cremasco, Italy, for the build he developed at his family’s auto-recycling business, Autodemolizione Marazzi.
How You Build a Car This Narrow
A year of cutting, welding, and reassembling a 1993 Fiat Panda produced something that looks like a car viewed through a fun-house mirror.
Marazzi reduced the original body to roughly one-third of its factory width, working almost entirely with scrapyard resources. According to coverage of his build documentation, approximately 99% of the components are original Fiat Panda parts.
The finished car measures 50.20 cm wide, 3.40 m long, and 1.45 m high, with a total weight of approximately 264 kg. That places it firmly in the weight class of a heavy electric scooter, not a conventional automobile.
What It Can (and Cannot) Do
Fully functional and fully electric, the Flat Fiat is nonetheless not cleared for any public road.
Power comes from a small e-scooter motor paired with a 24V battery, per tech coverage of Marazzi’s build videos. Top speed sits at approximately 15 km/h with a range of roughly 25 km, adequate for an event demonstration but not a commute.
Seated centrally, the single occupant fills the entire cabin. Fitted controls include a small steering wheel, four wheels, one front headlight, and two rear lights.
Not homologated for public roads, the car carries no road-legal status and is limited to controlled environments and demonstrations. For context, the Renault Twizy, itself considered a narrow urban micro-vehicle, runs approximately 120 to 140 cm wide; the Flat Fiat is less than half that.
Guinness records a distinct category here: narrowness, not smallest overall size. That separates Marazzi’s build from earlier records targeting overall vehicle dimensions.
A Proof of Concept, Not a Product
The Flat Fiat raises a precise engineering question, even if it cannot answer a practical one.
Some coverage notes that the build illustrates an extreme boundary of space-efficient vehicle design, particularly relevant in dense cities where width determines whether a vehicle fits. The car itself remains a one-off demonstration with no commercial future, but the design constraint it embodies is one urban planners and micro-mobility engineers are already working around.
