When you’re looking for the best TV monitors for gaming most people opt for size, but what if you want something portable? Options are a little bit different, but a great portable monitor is the HAIWAY 10.1 inch Security Monitor! This small TV has dual speakers, HDMI, VGA, A/V ports, & a BNC input you can use with a security camera. It even comes with a remote control!

Why We Like It – HAIWAY 10.1 inch Security Monitor

The HAIWAY 10.1 inch Security Monitor is a full HD 1024x600p resolution small TV/portable security monitor with multiple video input options such as an AV port, along with HDMI, VGA, & BNC inputs. Its small size makes it perfect for gaming on-the-go, CCTV setups, & Raspberry Pi builds.

Pros
  • Small TV Portable Monitor
  • Has Dual Speakers+HDMI/VGA/BNC Input
  • Perfect For Portable Gaming/CCTV/Raspberry Pi/PC Setups
Cons
  • Only Has One HDMI Port
  • Could Have A Better Stand

Performance

This 10.1-inch security monitor seems tiny next to bigger TVs (like the Sony X900H 85 Inch TV: 4K Ultra HD Smart LED TV), but it still offers decent performance. It has a full HD display (1024 x 600p) with a 400:1 contrast ratio & a maximum brightness of 400 cd/m2m, which should be suitable for most indoor viewing situations. It’s easy to connect to a video source thanks to its multiple inputs and has two internal 10W speakers located on the back of the monitor (along with a 3.5mm jack for headphone users).

Alternatively, for an even larger portable monitor with stereo speakers and more, have a look at our KYY portable monitor review.

Viewing Angle

Despite having a much smaller screen than TVs like the Sony X950H, this small monitor still has a wide viewing angle of 178°. It achieves this by displaying images and videos on a 1024 x 600p TFT LCD screen, as opposed to a TN panel. But, you’ll find a wider screen resolution with the AOC E1649FWU 16″ portable USB monitor, if the TN panel isn’t what you need. The TV can be wall-mounted or tilted back up to 160° on the stand. That said, this TV still won’t be great for a large crowd of viewers simply to its small size, which is only 10.1 inches.

Durability

This HAIWAY monitor is cased in cheap but sturdy plastic, with various buttons located on the front of the device. The buttons are a weak point, as a few users have reported them failing, but if they do the TV also comes with a remote for backup. Since the monitor only weighs 2.71 lbs, you will have to take care to not tip it over. Fortunately, HAIWAY thought of this, so they included a stand-sticker along with the TV (or you could wall-mount it).

Ports & Expandability

High-end features such as Bluetooth capabilities or multiple HDMI inputs (like on the Samsung Q80R TV) are lacking on this monitor. However, it is designed to be a basic TV/monitor, and it has enough input options for that. Located on the bottom of the monitor you will find a VGA port, an HDMI port, an A/V port, and a BNC connector. These will allow you to connect a laptop, streaming stick, security camera, gaming system, or even a Raspberry Pi (NOTE: only the 1024×600 model works with Raspberry Pi, not the 1280×800 model).

Value

At only $68.96, this HAIWAY monitor is very affordable. It has free shipping along with free returns, and although there is no specific warranty mentioned, there are two protection plans available for this device ($5.99 for two years, $7.99 for three years). Coming in as the #6 bestseller in Security Monitors & Displays on Amazon, this TV earned a score of 4.2 out of 5-stars based on 226 ratings. There were a few complaints, but for the most part, people seem happy with their purchase.

HAIWAY 10.1 inch Security Monitor Wrap Up

The HAIWAY 10.1 inch Security Monitor is a good purchase if you’re looking for a small monitor, either for security or to take on-the-go. It would have been better if the TV had more than one HDMI input, but for the size and price of this device, we can’t complain much.
