Say goodbye to an inferior viewing experience and hello to our #2 choice for best tv monitor, the LG 65″ 4K Ultra HD Smart LED NanoCell TV! Using the a7 Gen 2 Intelligent processor, this TV takes full advantage of both Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos technology to show 4K images in the finest detail (or upscale non-4K content!) while also providing an excellent listening experience.

Why We Like It – LG SM9000

The LG SM9000 (which is part of the NanoCell series) is a great TV to add to your home theater in your smart home. This smart TV is perfect for viewing all your favorite HDR content, thanks to its α7 Gen 2 Intelligent Processor, the inclusion of Dolby vision along with Dolby Atmos, and its 55” NanoCell LED display (if you’re looking for an OLED TV, Samsung sells OLED TVs as well).

  • Ultra HD Display Using LG NanoCell Technology
  • Thinq AI Works With Both Amazon Alexa & Google Assistant
  • Full Array Dimming (Opposed to Local Dimming)
  • While It Is WiSA Speaker Compatible, It Only Supports 5.1 Channel and 2.0 Channel Setups
  • Not An Android TV

Performance (Display/Resolution/Refresh)

If you’re looking for your next TV, a strong contender to consider is the LG SM9000 (another great option for smart TVs is the Samsung NU6900 55). This LG TV is one of the best TVs for you to buy for overall quality, both visually and auditorily, providing a full HD 4K viewing experience. Combining Dolby Vision and Nano Color technology, the α7 Gen 2 Intelligent Processor seamlessly displays vivid, lifelike images and videos at a refresh rate of 120 hertz.

The sound quality is excellent on this TV. LG worked hand-in-hand with Dolby to make sure this was the best TV in terms of sound, integrating Dolby Atmos into the system to provide an immersive, multi-dimensional listening experience. It has four down-firing speakers (totaling 40W of power). Sadly, this TV lacks a headphone jack, but it has Bluetooth so you can easily pair it with your favorite earbuds or soundbar, and it even works with WiSA speakers if sound quality is super important to you!

Smart Features

Providing a much better “smart” experience than you would find on your average LCD TVs, the LG SM9000 takes full advantage of its α7 Gen 2 Intelligent Processor, offering LG Thinq, Alexa, & Google Assistant capabilities (if you want one of the best TVs that works with Bixby, try the Samsung Q80R). This means that you can use this TV to check the weather, control other smart appliances in your home, or stream music easily with voice control using the microphone in the remote control.

Port & Expandability

The LG SM9000 has a total of 4 HDMI ports (that are excellent with barely any input lag) and 3 USB ports. With stand, without stand, on a wall mount – it doesn’t matter, the ports are all still easily accessible for use. It doesn’t have any HDMI output ports, but it does have an optical output that you can use to hook up your soundbar to the TV. These days, headphone jacks are uncommon in TVs, but we wish it had one all the same, if not for nostalgia then simply for an easy way to connect basic speakers.

Is this TV worth it? Definitely! But just like anything else, it does have a few shortcomings, mainly poor black levels (which are especially prominent when the device is turned to peak brightness). Despite that, we think that $746.99 is still a fair price for this TV (the Sony X720E is a cheaper alternative LED TV). It offers a vivid image when colors are displayed on the screen, works with both Alexa & Google Assistant, and even works with WiSA, Airplay, and good old-fashioned Bluetooth. Plus, delivery is free!

LG SM9000 Wrap Up

If you’re looking for a smart TV that looks excellent with bright, vivid images, look no further than the LG SM9000. Costing less than $750, this 55-inch 4K TV is sure to impress your friends and family, offering both excellent performance and a wide variety of integrated smart technology systems.
