The original 2001 Xbox was a black slab the size of a small country. Twenty-five years later, Microsoft is celebrating by making everything see-through and green. The Xbox Series X25 Limited Edition console and a coordinated wave of branded peripherals from Razer, 8BitDo, GameSir, Backbone, and PowerA hit preorder this week — all dressed in translucent OG Green, all nodding hard at a console that launched when Halo was still a revelation. The Hardware at the Center
The Series X25 is the first Xbox Series X to go translucent — same specs inside, very different story outside.
Microsoft’s Series X25 Limited Edition is the centerpiece. It features a translucent OG Green chassis with internal components visible through the shell, a front “X” logo that lights up green on boot, and a 25th anniversary emblem stamped on the front. Under the skin, it’s identical to the standard Series X — 1TB SSD, same performance, nothing moved.
The matching Xbox Wireless Controller X25 Special Edition features colored ABXY buttons and black-and-white bumpers, a direct callback to the original “Duke” controller. Both launch November 2026 in select markets. Pricing hasn’t been disclosed yet.

Nostalgia Is the Feature
No performance upgrade, no new internals — Microsoft is selling a feeling, and it knows exactly what it’s doing.
The Razer mouse is the same mouse. The keyboard is the same keyboard. For anyone who already owns either, this collection offers nothing except a different shell — and that shell is the entire product. Think of it as Microsoft’s iMac G3 moment: transparent plastic as cultural statement, the internals transformed into the aesthetic. It worked in 1998, and it’s working again now, because the people who were 15 when the original Xbox launched are 40 and still buying hardware. The Backbone Pro’s color mechanic deserves a flag, though. Three colorways exist, but buyers don’t choose one — the color ships at random.
