AMD has announced a 1-2 week delay in the launch of its highly anticipated Ryzen 9000 desktop CPUs. The company discovered that some of the initial production units did not meet its full quality expectations during final checks.
The issue was found in the packaging test and validation system, not the manufacturing process or the CPUs themselves. AMD is working with channel partners to replace the affected units with fresh ones.
The Ryzen 9000 series includes the Ryzen 9 9950X, 9900X, Ryzen 7 9700X, and Ryzen 5 9600X. The original launch date was set for July 31st, but the new schedule has the Ryzen 7 9700X and Ryzen 5 9600X launching on August 8th, followed by the Ryzen 9 9950X and 9900X on August 15th.
AMD has recalled the affected chips and is confident in a smooth testing process moving forward. The company’s computing and graphics SVP, Jack Huynh, released an official statement on Twitter explaining the situation and updated launch dates.
This cautious approach comes as Intel faces stability issues with its 13th and 14th Gen desktop processors. AMD’s commitment to quality is likely to be appreciated by consumers, even if it means a slight delay.
