Key Takeaways

Key Takeaways

  • Apple Fitness+ launches Gym Strength, delivering adaptive four-week personalized strength training plans.
  • Plans update weekly using logged performance data, shifting Fitness+ beyond its static class library.
  • Gym Strength supports over 350 exercises across 30-plus equipment types, included at no extra cost.

Gym Strength is available in beta with iOS 27.3, iPadOS 27.3, and watchOS 27.3. The feature generates a personalized four-week strength plan built around a user’s goals, experience level, available equipment, preferred body areas, schedule, and session length.

Plans update each week using performance data logged during the previous one. That progression model positions Fitness+ closer to a guided training system than a static workout library.

Setting Up Your Plan

Users configure training days, target body areas, session length, and experience level before the first workout begins.

Shorter sessions run approximately 20 to 30 minutes and include five exercises. Longer sessions run roughly 45 to 60 minutes and include seven.

Equipment is part of the initial configuration. Gym Strength supports more than 350 exercises across 30-plus equipment types, with dumbbells reported as the minimum requirement to get started, according to 9to5Mac.

What Each Workout Delivers

Each session provides exercise recommendations, rep and set targets, and load guidance alongside short trainer demonstrations.

Short demonstrations from Apple Fitness+ trainers accompany each movement. If a machine is taken or unavailable, users can substitute equipment or swap to an alternative exercise without abandoning the session.

That flexibility is designed to work in both commercial gyms and home setups, according to 9to5Mac. MacRumors also corroborates the equipment-substitution feature as a core part of the design.

Apple Watch Makes Logging Hands-Free

Apple Watch owners running watchOS 27.3 can view exercises and log reps and weight from the wrist while tracking heart rate and calories.

An iPhone running iOS 27.3 or an iPad running iPadOS 27.3 is required to access Gym Strength. The Apple Watch extends the experience with wrist-based logging and physiological metrics, but it is not mandatory.

Users without a Watch can access Gym Strength on iPhone or iPad. The core plan runs entirely through either device.

Availability and Access

Gym Strength is included with an existing Apple Fitness+ subscription at no additional cost and is currently available in beta.

The feature arrives with the iOS 27.3, iPadOS 27.3, and watchOS 27.3 updates. It is not offered as a separate purchase.

Several details remain unconfirmed at launch: regional availability and supported languages. Load-recommendation methodology is also unclear. It is not established whether weight suggestions rely solely on user-entered history or involve Apple Intelligence features, though 9to5Mac notes that an optional Training Note feature does use Apple Intelligence on supported devices set to English.

Unlike subscription coaching apps that pair users with human trainers, Gym Strength automates progression entirely from logged data. That approach lowers the barrier to structured resistance training for beginners and experienced lifters alike, provided the beta rollout extends to their region and language.
