What the ‘F’! I had no clue that applying negative pressure (i.e. suction) to a wound, yeah those things that bleed, could cause it to accelerate the healing process. Now an MIT student – they’re taking over the world, wait that already happened – has developed a system that is comparable the $100/day rental version for just $3.
The whole device is pretty simple. In essence it’s just a hand power pump that is connected to a tube that sucks away the bad stuff. The invention has already been used in the recent Haiti tragedy with success!
The messed up thing is that doctors don’t know why suction causes the wound to heal that much quicker, but theories point to the drawing of bacteria and other fluids away from the injury that might otherwise mess with the recovery process.
