The HP OfficeJet Pro 8710 is probably the best duplex printer you can buy right now, below $250. It’s one of the only printers that also feature duplex scanning at this price. And the print speed is also pretty good on this printer. So, why should you buy this highly-functional printer? Let’s find out in our review

If you can find the HP OfficeJet Pro 8710 for a good deal, it’s definitely worth picking up. Granted that it’s a bit old at this point. But still, it has all the necessary features that you’ll ever need. If you can find it below $250, you can go for it with your eyes closed.

As we mentioned before, print speed is one of the better aspects of this printer. With a low enough quality setting, you can get as many as 22 pages per minute (Black ink) out of it, which is the same as you can get from the HP Officejet Pro 9015. And for color prints, you can get as high as 18 pages per minute out of this printer. If you’re still unsatisfied, you should opt for the Brother HL-L2350DW laser printer.
This HP inkjet printer’s print and scan quality is nothing extraordinary. It’s just fine for business work as long as you stay away from the max DPI setting. For some reason, the highest scan resolution setting degrades the quality of a scanned copy. If you don’t want to deal with these weird problems and want something that just works, get the Epson WorkForce WF-3540 instead.
HP likes to tout “50% lower cost per page compared to laser printers” with this inkjet printer in the product information. While that statement may be true regarding power efficiency, it definitely does not hold any value in ink efficiency.
You may get worried after seeing the launch date of this printer that it won’t have all the modern features. But we can confirm, there’s no need to worry; it does come with most, if not all, the modern features you’ll ever need realistically.
If you can find the HP OfficeJet Pro 8710 below $250, it’s an amazing value-for-money printer. Also, HP support in the United States is actually pretty good and helpful. But, if you can only find it at its original launch price, it’s not worth picking up. In that case, you can pick up something like the Brother MFC-J880DW.
So overall, the HP OfficeJet Pro 8710 is a pretty good inkjet printer. A longer power cord would’ve been nice, and you need to sign up at HP.com in order to print wirelessly, so do watch out for those factors. Other than that and a few other quirks, the HP OfficeJet Pro 8710 is perfect for pretty much everyone.
