Product Snapshot

Overview

The Audeze Maxwell Wireless gaming headset is a 2023 premium gaming headset that comes in both Xbox and Playstation variants. You can purchase the option that matches your gaming console. Like many of the highest-rated gaming headsets today, the Audeze Maxwell Wireless offers plenty of advanced features and comfort, including a detachable boom mic for in-game chat. Plus, this headset can connect to your console or PC using a wired or wireless connection.

These headphones feature planar magnetic drivers, and a companion smartphone app to control EQ presets. They also support LDAC for Hi-Res audio streaming. They are lacking active noise cancellation (ANC).

Consensus

our Verdict

The Audeze Maxwell Wireless headset is an excellent choice for gamers thanks to its neutral sound profile and low latency wireless connectivity. The headset utilizes planar magnetic drivers for a more immersive soundstage, but this can, unfortunately, lead to more ear fatigue. However, using the companion app, you can easily adjust EQ settings and presets.

The headphones provide reliable wireless connectivity using the included 2.4GHz wireless adapter, but you can use Bluetooth or wired connectivity. They feature a comfortable over-ear design with user controls on the earcups. The Audeze Maxwell Wireless includes a detachable boom mic and an integrated mic, both of which offer excellent quality. You’ll also get an outstanding 77 hours of continuous battery life with just a 3-hour charge time, perfect for long gaming sessions.

Reason to Buy

  • Balanced Overall Sound Profile
    • The Audeze Maxwell Wireless creates a neutral sound profile out of the box, which will appeal to most gamers, especially since they won’t need much reconfiguring. However, the companion smartphone app also includes a variety of EQ presents for greater customization.

    • The planar magnetic drivers also create an immersive soundstage with an extended bass response. This gaming headset supports the LDAC codec to stream Hi-Res audio, a must-have for audiophiles.

  • Excellent Microphone Quality
    • These headphones include both a detachable boom mic for gaming and an integrated microphone for a more compact, on-the-go design. Both microphones feature excellent audio quality for in-game chats and phone calls.

Reason to Avoid

  • Can Be Uncomfortable Over Extended Use
    • While comfortable for short periods of use, this headset is heavier and bulkier than comparable alternatives, meaning it can get uncomfortable during those long gaming sessions

    • The planar magnetic drivers can also lead to quicker ear fatigue.

  • Passive Noice Cancellation Only
    • If you’re looking for ANC, you’ll want to consider a different headset. The Audeze Maxwell only offers passive noise cancellation.

  • Not Very Portable
    • Due to their bulky and heavy design, these headphones aren’t the greatest for on-the-go use. The earcups can only turn to lay flat, and they aren’t meant to be folded for portable storage.
