The Acer Predator X25 delighted product testers with its outstanding 360Hz refresh rate, and also had them quite impressed with its wide viewing angles, ambient lighting, and high color accuracy. Still, they were not very pleased with two things; its low contrast ratio and its low HDR peak brightness level – drawbacks it shares with the Acer Nitro XF252Q.

Product Snapshot

Overview

The Acer Predator X25 is a 1080p screen resolution display that was announced in mid-2021 as a mid-tier display. It may not feature on our list of highly-rated computer monitors or even the best gaming monitors, but it still boasts a 360Hz refresh rate for smooth graphics and a rapid 0.3ms Gray to Gray response time that prevents motion blur. The display also has good ergonomics and wide viewing angles for good image quality when viewed from the side; attributes that it shares with the Lenovo Legion Y27Q-20. Its reflection handling is also good because of its matte screen finish, and its color accuracy has a decent Delta E score of 1.67, meaning it is pretty high out of the box.

Consensus

our Verdict

The Acer Predator X25 is a 25-inch monitor that reviewers have praised as the perfect pick for high-performance gaming, because of its 360Hz refresh rate. Critics from Rtings were quite impressed since they didn’t come across any screen tearing. They also hailed its wide horizontal and vertical viewing angles and concluded that, just like the Acer Nitro XV340CK, it is a pretty good option for co-op gaming. Product reviewers from Tom’s Hardware also registered their satisfaction with its rapid 0.3ms response time since, during their experiments, they did not encounter any streaks of motion blur. They also found out that it had a Delta E score of 1.67, which meant that its color accuracy was pretty good.

However, X25 disappointed some testers with its low 1000:1 contrast ratio, as they found that this made it difficult to view in a dark room courtesy of low black levels. They also didn’t like that the screen did not get as bright as they might have wanted, leading to mediocre HDR performance.

  • Wide viewing angles
  • Rapid response time

The Acer X25 and the Acer XB273U have a lot of features in common. They have superb ergonomics, wide viewing angles, an IPS panel, and high brightness levels of 443 nits and 468 nits respectively, but the X25 comes out on top because it is capable of smoother visuals courtesy of its higher 360Hz refresh rate compared to the XV273U’s 270Hz, even though the XB273U has a wider 88% coverage of the DCI-P3 color scale compared to the X25, which manages a decent 79.4% coverage.

The Acer Predator X25’s 1080p screen might not square up to the 4K picture quality of the Acer Predator X27, but it has rear RGB lighting and delivers a higher 360Hz refresh rate compared to the X27’s 144Hz. This makes it more ideal for gaming thanks to smoother visuals.

The Acer Predator X25 and the Dell Alienware AW2521H are pretty much at par with each other as far as features and performance are concerned. They both have a 360Hz refresh rate, a 1080p 25-inch screen, dual HDMI 2.0 ports, and four USB ports. The only major difference is that the AW2521H is slightly heavier. Still, both are much better picks compared to some of the best 144Hz 1440p monitors in the market.
