Apple long maintained that touch on a Mac Mini made no ergonomic sense. That position is reportedly about to change.
Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman posted on X that Apple has invited select media to an all-day product experience in Los Angeles on October 28, 2026, centered on touchscreen MacBooks, a new iPad mini, and M6 Macs. Apple has not publicly confirmed the event, the date, or any of the products involved.
A New MacBook Pro, If the Reports Hold
The headline product is expected to be a redesigned MacBook Pro with an OLED touchscreen in 14-inch and 16-inch sizes, according to 9to5Mac and MacRumors.
Reported design changes include a lighter enclosure, a Dynamic Island-style display cutout replacing the current notch, and direct touch input on the screen. Chip configurations are reportedly M5 Pro and M5 Max, not the newer M6, though Apple has confirmed none of this.
OLED displays deliver deeper blacks and sharper contrast than the mini-LED panels in current MacBook Pro models. That difference is meaningful on paper, particularly for video editors and photographers. No independent testing exists ahead of release, so real-world performance remains unknown.
Pricing, exact dimensions, battery performance, and software configuration are all unconfirmed. PCMag reported the devices have been tested with macOS 27.1, but Apple has not confirmed that detail.
The Rest of the Reported Lineup
Beyond the MacBook Pro, MacRumors reports Apple is preparing an OLED iPad mini with an 8.4-inch display, a landscape-oriented front camera, and a redesigned speaker system.
Current rumors suggest the new iPad mini uses a hybrid OLED panel running at 60Hz, meaning ProMotion’s adaptive refresh rate is reportedly not included. That omission may matter to buyers expecting the feature, though no pricing has been confirmed.
The M6 Mac lineup may also include a standard 14-inch MacBook Pro and a 24-inch iMac, according to The Apple Post and MacRumors. The iMac may jump directly from M4 to M6, skipping a generation entirely, though the specific models tied to October 28 remain unconfirmed.
Apple officially announced the M6 chip family in August 2026, per the Apple Newsroom, building on their ongoing custom silicon strategy. That announcement did not reference any specific October Mac products.
An Experience, Not a Keynote
Gurman describes an all-day product launch experience in Los Angeles, a format that reporting suggests differs from a conventional stage keynote, though the full format has not been confirmed.
The distinction matters: October 28 is a demo date, not necessarily a ship date. MacRumors reports the products are more likely to reach customers in November, not on the day of the event itself.
If the M6 iMac ships in November, it arrives squarely in the holiday-shopping window. Whether that timing holds, and at what price, remains to be seen.
What to Do With This Right Now
