D3O Gadget Cases Offer Incredible Shock Resistance

November 20th, 2009 10:24 AM | by Steve Anderson

d3o cases

You may remember reading here, back in March, about the D3O protective plasticine goo being used in soldiers’ helmets, but now it’s got a more mundane use–as a gadget protector.

Parent company Tech21 recently launched a wide array of smartphone and laptop cases that offer between, get this, “140 and 221 percent more protection for a mobile device or laptop than existing cases can”.

See, D3O is a strange sort of chemically engineered, enhanced Silly Putty of sorts that, when you pull it apart slowly, stretches much like Silly Putty would.  But if you jolt it abruptly, it hardens and becomes rigid, offering a shock absorption capability for relatively low space.

D3O cases are now available, and cost between twenty eight and fifty bucks depending on where you shop and what sizes you get.

The HypnosEye Projector is a completely wireless projector and is a cheap and easy way for you to display visual media from your iPhone.  It actually works with any phone that has an adjustable brightness as it uses a special mirror with a reflection agent at the top of the glass instead of the bottom making for a more clear image. …Continue reading: HypnosEye Projector For Your iPhone

New Maxell MXSP-D240 iPod Speaker Dock Approaches Log Visual

November 18th, 2009 3:11 PM | by Jeff Bordeaux

MAxellMXSP-D240

Possibly looking pretty swank at your alpine lodge time share, the Maxell MXSP-D240 will hopefully be banging enough to get the party going as well.  Available in white or black, the MXSP-D240 is Japan only right now and goes on sale at the end of the month.

The MXSP-D240 is compatible with most iPod models and comes with a remote control.  Thanks to a balanced horn structure to radiate sound energy efficiently, this speaker dock could be worth looking into.  With so many speaker docks to choose from these days it’s nice to see one that actually sticks out visually.  Priced at around $112

Control is power and vice-versa.  Scarface would agree.  Those who have a Direct TV DVR and an iPhone will be happy to know that there is a new app out there that gives you full access to your account.

The app is FREE and will let you browse programs, stations and set new recordings from anywhere you have Internet access.  Does Tivo have this yet?

Chinon AVi-An iPod Dock With A Clock, Radio, And LCD TV Tuner (video)

Chinon AVI iPod Dock Radio

While I’m not so sure on the design aesthetic, the Chinon Avi is a techy eye catcher nonetheless.  It features a 7-inch LCD monitor with a built in TV tuner, a clock, a radio, iPod dock, remote and the typical iPod controls.  All this can be yours this holiday season for $200.

Although I’ve never heard of this brand before, it’s nice to see a product that combines all this cool stuff into one boombox sized package. …Continue reading: Chinon AVi-An iPod Dock With A Clock, Radio, And LCD TV Tuner (video)

Sparkz Projector Dock For Your iPhone (video)

November 10th, 2009 1:26 PM | by Jeff Bordeaux

sparkz

In what appears to be a product I’ve never seen the likes of, the Sparkz Projector Dock is a fresh and pricey new addition to aftermarket iPhone accessories.  The built-in pico projector accepts a variety of A/V and VGA inputs and is capable of displaying 640 x 480 resolutions at up to 60 inches.  Snaps.

There’s also some little stereo speakers attached but I can’t imagine them doing much banging.  The dock also charges your iPhone and it comes with a tri-pod.  At a $495 price tag, early adopters will want to make sure this is a quality product.  Maybe the video below will help.

MovieWedge Review

Doubling as a hacky-sack, the MovieWedge is a convenient way to view media horizontally on your iPhone or iPod touch.  The MovieWedge is lightweight and portable beanbag-esque cushion that supports your iPhone for prime viewing.

Embracing a brutally simple design aesthetic, the MovieWedge can effectively adapt to most any surrounding.  Capable of changing shape to a small degree, the MovieWedge can easily fit in where ever you need it.  From a stiff but moving airplane tray table, to your bed or your grassy backyard, the MovieWedge is unlike any iPhone stand you have used before. …Continue reading: MovieWedge Review

$10 iPod Speaker From The Container Store

November 9th, 2009 3:21 PM | by Jeff Bordeaux

DeskSpeakers_x

In America, there’s nothing quite like a good value.  I went to Burger King the other day because they had a $1 Double Cheeseburger.  It was quite a value as I had two.  This little iPod speaker from the Container Store is only $10.  What would make it a value?

For me, I don’t quite like how the speaker is facing backwards.  Other than that it looks OK.  Using four AAA batteries for power, I wonder how loud it gets, as lack of volume is generally the biggest downfall to speakers of this size.

It could be decent for some indoor situations, like a customer service call center cubicle during break time, but I can’t see this thing being of much “value” outdoors.
