The Google Rocket Launches New Google Maps Camera
Google, along with Geoeye and Boeing put a camera in space yesterday that’ll enable some ‘extreme close ups’ (thanks Garth and Wayne). The DoD is in on it too, so the camera’s full potential is limited to a half of meter of detail, although it can achieve .41 meter close ups. Color shots max out at just over a meter, but when you compare that to today’s Google maps, it’s detail we’ve never seen before. Google got their logo rocket side, which apparently led to all sorts of speculation that Google is taking over the military and the two founders were on site to witness the launch first hand.
