Paramount Home Entertainment announced on Sunday that they would support both upcoming high definition DVD formats — HD-DVD and Blu-ray.
This announcement makes Paramount the first movie studio to officially back both formats. So far in this war, manufacturers and studios have been choosing sides.
Although Paramount was originally sided with Toshiba’s HD-DVD format, they’ve since come to the middle. According to the studio, the PlayStation 3′s support for the Blu-Ray format made them decide to support both formats. Not a bad idea since the PlayStation 2 certainly helped bring DVDs to the mainstream when the console was cheaper than most entry level DVD players at launch.
All this, of course, comes as news shortly following Toshiba’s delay of launching HD-DVD.
