I think the subject lines explains it all. Yes, I am bored with the release of yet another MP3 player. I need innovation, a cool design, and/or a sick ass battery life to keep me excited about MP3 devices.
Don’t get me wrong though. I ain’t saying Dell’s new MP3 player, the DJ Ditty, isn’t note worthy. The device is pretty damn small and light weight – 1.29oz. It features 512MB flash memory which can in theory hold “220 songs” and a reported 14 hour playback time. Ah, wait a second, that means that each song must be 2.33mb. What rating is that, anyone? I am guessing in the crappy to more crappy range (disclaimer: I am an audio snob when it comes to MP3 quality – nothing less then 224kbps for me). Nonetheless, it sports an 1″ screen (take that Shuffle) and starts at $99.
Dell clearly is one of those “you are damned if you don’t, and damn if you do” thinking companies. I guess they are depending on their already existing computer customers to come snatch these up.
