With 4K TVs and UHD 4K Blu-ray players becoming more consumer-friendly, perhaps now is the time to purchase the best blu ray player for your setup; after all, 4K is the next step in picture quality. With the Sony UBP-X1000ES you’ll get to experience what all the fuss is about. It has more to offer aside from 4K, making it a contender as the best 4K blu ray player.

Why We Like It – Sony UBP-X1000ES

Finally take advantage of those UHD Blu Ray discs you have laying around with this UHD 4K player, supporting HDR, Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos for quality sound of the highest quality yet. You can also experience Dolby TrueHD & DTS-HD by checking out the Toshiba bdx5300 3d blu ray player with built in WiFi review.

  • Stunning Ultra HD 4K picture quality
  • Superb sound quality w/ Dolby Atmos
  • Support Dolby Vision
  • Expensive
  • Need 4K TV to take advantage of everything

The Sony UBP-X1000ES UHD Blu-ray Disc Player did not hold back when it came to picture quality. Ultra HD 4K already looks impressive with the right setup, but with Dolby Vision added in? In other words: in addition to the added pixels for higher picture quality, HDR improved the quality of the darkest darks and brightest brights. It beat the Panasonic DP-UB820 Ultra HD 4K Blu-ray Player by a mile.

Then there’s Dolby Atmos. Sound quality gets a major boost from surround sound. Even better, by hooking up a two channel system to provide sound in multiple directions, creating an immersive experience. On a side note, this Blu-ray player is very supportive of DVD audio formats, being able to playback AAC, WAV, DSD11.2 MHz and more.

As impressive as the Sony UBP-X1000ES is, it’s rather plain-looking. With a simple rectangular design and matte black finish, you wouldn’t expect much out of it if you started a Blu-ray player review of your own. Don’t let that fool you, however. Inside are more goodies such as Wi-Fi and Bluetooth streaming, a feature the LG 3D Ultra High Definition 4K Blu-ray Player lacks. In the back is a single USB port, 1x Ethernet, 2x HDMI ports, 1x optical digital audio and one Coax digital audio port. That’s pretty standard fare, to be honest—but great nonetheless. The Sony UBP X1000ES has a lot to offer compared to other high end Ultra HD Blu Ray players. When it comes to performance, quality and design, Sony really brings their A game. However, there are better options that shave a few fatty features, such as the UBP-X700 Sony Ultra HD 4K Blu-ray Player. And at a third of the price, it’s great on a budget if you still want a 4K TV as well. But let’s say you still want the Sony UBP-X1000ES. In that case, you can save yourself some money by picking up a Sony UBP X800; it’s identical to the X1000ES except for the lack of an optical digital audio output and front panel display.

Sony UBP-X1000ES Wrap Up

The Sony UBP-X1000ES, to put it plainly: it’s a powerhouse. Fitted with all the right features like Dolby Atmos and Dolby Vision, those two alone are excellent companions to have in addition to Ultra HD 4K. However, to take advantage of the whole package you’ll need a 4K TV. Still, conventional TVs will still benefit from sharper images and audio quality.
