The Razer Thresher Ultimate offers an alternative to Bluetooth connectivity and is also comfortable for long gaming sessions. However, it doesn’t support noise canceling.

Product Snapshot

Overview

The Razer Thresher Ultimate was announced in 2017. The wireless headphones ship with a headset stand, which is rare, even for some of the best gaming headsets on the market. The base station has a 2.4GHz transmitter for ultra-low latency, and its ear cups have leatherette pads for comfort, especially during long gaming sessions.

The headset also includes a detachable microphone, and its controls are on the undersides of its two earcups. The headphones are fitted with 50mm drivers for a bass-heavy audio output, but they don’t offer Bluetooth connectivity and don’t allow for a 3.5mm audio jack connection.

Consensus

our Verdict

The Razer Thresher Ultimate offers a bass-heavy sound output out of the box, and their support for 7.1 virtual surround sound makes them an excellent pick for immersive gaming. While they miss out on Bluetooth connectivity, their included transmitter keeps latency under 20ms, which is ideal for imperceptible audio-visual lag. The included base also has a USB port for charging the headset, which takes about four hours.

The headset is also very comfortable for long gaming sessions, courtesy of the generous padding on its headband and earcups. There’s also a set of easy-to-reach controls on the underside of each ear cup, and thanks to a high-quality microphone, recording quality is relatively high. Unfortunately, there’s no noise canceling.

ReasonS to Buy

  • Great sound quality
    • Audio quality on the Thresher Ultimate is top tier, as despite being boomy, mids and trebles aren’t drowned out. The headset also supports virtual 7.1  multidirectional sound, which is great for situational awareness when gaming.

  • Very comfortable
    • The Thresher Ultimate has good padding on both its headband and earcups. This makes it easy to wear them for long gaming sessions.

  • Excellent microphone
    • The microphone on the Thresher Ultimate accurately picks up sound and is excellent for multiplayer dialogue when gaming.

Reason to Avoid

  • No Bluetooth connectivity
    • The headset relies on a 2.4GHz transmitter for connectivity and misses out on Bluetooth.

  • No noise cancelling
    • The Razer Thresher Ultimate also doesn’t have noise cancellation.

The Razer Thresher Ultimate has a 16-hour battery, slightly less than that of the Razer Kaira Pro Wireless, which lasts about 20 hours. Also, the Thresher Ultimate takes four hours to charge, while the Kaira Pro Wireless requires 3.7 hours. Additionally, the Kaira Pro Wireless has a 325 ft range, compared to the Thresher Ultimate, which has a 40 ft range. The Razer Thresher Ultimate is wireless, while the Logitech G Pro X Gaming Headset is wired. As a result, the Thresher Ultimate has its controls situated on the underside of its earcups, while the G Pro X has its controls on an in-line remote. The Razer Thresher Ultimate misses out on active noise cancellation, which is present on the Epos H3PRO Hybrid gaming headset. The H3PRO also lasts up to 38 hours with ANC off, which is much more than the Thresher Ultimate’s 16 hours, and it takes a swift two hours to charge compared to the Thresher Ultimate’s four hours. If the Epos headset sounds interesting, see what else it has in store in our Epos H3PRO Hybrid review.
