Key Takeaways

Key Takeaways

  • iOS 27.2 brings Dual Capture to FaceTime group calls on iPhone 17 and newer.
  • Apple TV gains user profiles and Multiview, separating viewing history for multiple household members.
  • Siri AI expands to five new languages, including French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish.

Apple’s iOS 27.2 release candidate arrived on October 19, 2026, putting the public rollout on track for around October 26, pending Apple’s final confirmation. Six built-in apps are expected to receive practical improvements: Messages, FaceTime, Apple TV, Home, Podcasts, and Games.

What’s Changing in Messages, FaceTime, and Apple TV

Three of Apple’s most-used apps are reportedly gaining features that were either delayed or previously unavailable on iPhone and iPad.

Suggested Actions is expected to return to Messages after Apple dropped the feature before iOS 27’s initial public release. The app surfaces contextual prompts below your messages when a conversation calls for it. Those prompts can include creating a calendar event, setting a reminder, or adding details to a note. You can reportedly adjust which types of suggestions appear.

Group FaceTime calls are expected to support Dual Capture on iPhone 17 and newer, streaming both cameras simultaneously by default. All participants reportedly need iOS 27 or later for the feature to work, according to testing reports.

Apple TV on iPhone and iPad is expected to gain user profiles, matching what tvOS already offers. Each profile keeps its own viewing history and recommendations separate, which is useful when multiple household members share a device or account. A profile-selection screen appears when you open the app, with an option to disable the prompt. Testing also indicated Multiview support for iPhone, reportedly allowing eligible subscribers to watch up to four supported sports streams at the same time, though that claim has not been confirmed by a primary Apple source.

Home, Podcasts, and Games Round Out the Update

The update is also expected to bring organizational and automation improvements to three more built-in apps.

The Home app is expected to add Lock After Closing, a new automation that starts a countdown after a compatible door shuts, then locks the smart lock after your chosen delay. That timer begins at the point of closing. This is distinct from the previous trigger, which was based on how long a door had been unlocked. A companion Door Left Open alert can notify you when a compatible door has stayed open beyond a set period. Both features require compatible smart locks and Home integrations.

Your Up Next queue in Podcasts is getting a cleaner split into two sections: New Episodes and Continue Playing. New Episodes surfaces recent releases from shows you follow, while Continue Playing collects episodes you have started but not finished.

The Games app is expected to adjust its Home tab to highlight games you have downloaded but never launched. Previously, the tab favored titles with existing play activity, which made recently downloaded games easy to overlook. Achievement progress and leaderboard scores are also reported to receive a more prominent presentation directly from the Home tab.

iOS 27.2 is also reported to expand Apple’s Siri AI to five additional languages: French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish. Apple Music interface updates and other smaller system refinements are expected alongside those changes, though specific details remain unconfirmed. Features spotted during beta testing can still be adjusted or removed before public release, so the final build may differ from what testing has indicated.
