The Formlabs Form 3 is a high-quality, low-hassle SLA Printer that will produce amazing 3D prints of whatever you ask of it for an obscenely high amount of money. But that’s the price you have to pay for quality in 3D printers right now. Check out our best 3D printer list to learn more about 3D printers! So, what makes this top-grade printer popular? We’ll learn more in our review…

Why We Like It – Formlabs Form 3

The Formlabs Form 3 is a high-quality SLA Printer that utilizes a laser to transform liquid resin into a solid form. It’s a sophisticated machine that can produce the highest-quality prints without any undue strain, making it great for people who want to do a lot of printing without problems.

  • Amazing print quality
  • Auto-refills the resin tank
  • User-friendly post-processing
  • No camera to check on it if you’re away
  • Use of third-party resins voids the warranty
  • Obscenely expensive

With the Form 3, Formlabs is introducing its new Low Force Stereolithography (LFS) technology. The innovation here is the flexible plastic on the bottom layer allowing the machine to use less force in pulling the hardened layers up. Unfortunately, there is no camera inside the Form 3 to check on the prints, so you won’t know if a print has failed until the printing process is complete or you check it while it’s printing. If that is a deal breaker and you must have a camera inside the printer, check out the Monoprice Voxel. Still, the Form 3 produces quality prints with detail and smoothness. You can also check out the Zortrax M200 3D Printer to see another example of quality prints.

The Formlabs Form 3 carries an impressive build volume of 145mmX145mmX185mm. The Form 3’s laser and optics are found under the resin tank in a sealed package called the Light Processing Unit, which protects it from dust and can be completely replaced by the user. The Form 3 also fills the resin cartridge by itself, which is a plus because the standard resin is nasty, stinky stuff. The Form 3 is a versatile open/closed printer, but you can try the LulzBot Mini 3D printer if you want a specifically open frame. And if you like how 3D printers have a large reservoir of resin and would like that with a regular printer, you should check out our reviews of some ink tank printers like the Epson ET-2720 or the Epson WorkForce ET-4750.

The post-processing methods of the Form 3 are user-friendly, with Formlabs shipping its form wash and the entire post-processing kit with the purchase of the complete package of Form 3. It’s expensive, though. So if you’re in the market for SLA Printers, you may be turned off by the $3,500 – $5,000 price range (depending on what package you get). If you’re looking for something a little more affordable, consider looking at the XYZprinting Nobel 3D Printer.

Formlabs Form 3 Wrap Up

The Formlabs Form 3 will print what you want to print in stunning accuracy and detail and leave you feeling amazed. It will also leave your bank account empty, and it’s unfortunate that you must use their resins, as using a third-party’s resin will void the warranty. Still, its print quality will be very hard to beat.
