Apple Pencil support is arriving on the iPhone Duo ahead of schedule. When Apple unveiled its foldable iPhone in September, stylus compatibility was slated for “later this year,” with no specific update named.
iOS 27.2 is that update. The public release is expected around October 26, 2026, according to 9to5Mac.
Early Access: What Weinbach’s Testing Confirms
Analyst testing on the iOS 27.2 Release Candidate confirms Apple Pencil support is already live for early adopters.
Creative Strategies analyst Max Weinbach confirmed the feature was working on his iPhone Duo after installing the iOS 27.2 Release Candidate, according to 9to5Mac reporting from October 21. Weinbach posted on X that “Apple Pencil support is with iOS 27.2 btw” and that “iOS 27.2 RC rolled out Monday, and it works.”
Based on Weinbach’s RC testing and Apple’s original announcement, the update supports:
- Drawing and sketching
- Document annotation and markup
- Handwritten note-taking
- Navigation across both the inner and outer displays
Apple confirmed at launch that stylus functionality works across both screens. The large inner panel is particularly well-suited for detailed annotation and sketching work.
Compatibility: One Model Only
Only the USB-C Apple Pencil is confirmed to work with the iPhone Duo; other Pencil models are not supported.
Only the Apple Pencil with USB-C is confirmed to work with the iPhone Duo. Apple Pencil Pro and earlier Pencil models are not reported to be compatible, according to 9to5Mac.
If you already own an incompatible Pencil model, plan for an additional purchase before the feature is useful to you. It is worth verifying which model you have before assuming you are ready to go on day one.
What to Do Now
iPhone Duo owners can access stylus support now via the Release Candidate, or wait for the stable public update.
iPhone Duo owners running the iOS 27.2 Release Candidate can access Apple Pencil support immediately. Those on the stable release should expect the public update to arrive the week of October 26, 2026, based on 9to5Mac’s reporting. Apple has not officially announced a specific release date.
Stylus support gives the iPhone Duo a meaningful productivity edge for document-heavy and creative workflows. For a device built around its dual-display layout, that is a capability its spec sheet alone could not fully convey. Smartphone charging tips can also help Duo owners maintain their device as stylus workflows add new demands on daily use.
