Rating: ★★★½☆

Pros:

  • Charges two iProducts at the same time
  • Two LED light shows charge status
  • Small footprint and eliminates some cord clutter

Cons:

  • A bit pricey for what it does
  • Doesn’t include doubles of dock adapters or support for 3G/4G iPod Touch
  • Lacks auto off feature when charging is complete (unverified)

If you’re like us, you probably own more than one Apple product with a dock connector built into it.  Enter the XtremeMac InCharge Duo.  It can accommodate a variety of iProducts and includes a removable iPad slot.

In the box are a set of adapters to charge an iPhone 3G/4G, iPod Touch 1G/2G and iPod Nano 5G.  The iPad dock is removable and can be replaced with a standard dock with no backing such that you can charge two iPods or two iPhone.  But here is the kicker: XtremeMac failed to include two dock adapters of each type.  So for example, you won’t get a perfect fit in both docks if you’re attempting to charge two 5G iPod Nanos; you can still use the dock it will just lack the snug fit.  On a positive note removing and replacing the iPad dock adapter wasn’t too complicated, but requires the right push and shove from the correct angle to unhinge it.

I struggled for a few minutes to find the correct adapter for my iPhone 3Gs since they aren’t labeled, but after some trial and error I located the correct one.

The LED battery charging light is a nice touch, especially since the iPhone/iPod/iPad’s display turns off automatically after a few seconds.

I had no problems charging any of my devices and aside from the fact that it lacks every iProduct dock adapter, it makes a great desk or bedside companion for anyone looking to eliminate cord clutter.  We just hope that the future model includes more adapters, an auto shut off feature to prevent needless charging and a charger that doesn’t draw vampire power when not in use.

You can pick one up at Amazon for about $60.
