Product Snapshot

Overview

The Samsung HW-Q900T is a high-end 7.1.2 channel soundbar that made its debut in 2020, and it offers an exceptionally wide soundstage with Dolby Atmos for both living rooms and home theater setups.

But, despite the vast soundstage, it still can’t deliver as much immersiveness as the top-rated speakers available in the market.

Although it features Bluetooth and Wi-Fi for wireless audio streaming, it doesn’t have Chromecast or Apple AirPlay, unlike the highest-rated soundbars of today.

The Samsung HW-Q900T does come with a wireless subwoofer unit that helps deliver extended low bass. However, if you’re looking for a soundbar setup that comes with an even more powerful and better subwoofer, take a look at our Samsung HW-Q910B review.

In terms of wired connectivity, this soundbar boasts an optical audio jack and two full-speed HDMI ARC (Audio Return Channel) passthrough ports to double as an HDMI hub.

It also has a USB port that only facilitates servicing and firmware upgrades, meaning you can’t play audio files from a thumb drive directly. It also touts an exceptionally low audio latency over the optical audio port, which is very useful for gamers and those sensitive to audio delay.

our Verdict

Connecting devices to the Samsung HW-Q900T is hassle-free, thanks to HDMI ports. It has an excellent tested 10 ms latency I and also streams to Bluetooth via WiFi but doesn’t connect to Apple Airplay.

The soundbar’s neutral sound profile and deep bass are powered by the dedicated subwoofer and center channel that produces clear mids and vocals. While there’s no room for correction, it has graphic EQ and presets.

The soundstage is commendable, though immersive audio falls short due to limited surround and height performance. Controls and displays are user-friendly.

However, it lacks auto-volume and room correction features. Bass inconsistencies at low levels and the occasional issue with combining TV and soundbar speakers are noted.

The symphony pairing, which enhances the sound with Samsung QLED TV, is another cool feature.

Reason to Buy

  • “High-quality, versatile sound “
    • The soundbar works excellently for TV shows, movies, and music, given its balanced and wide sound profile and multiple sound customization options, like presets and a graphic EQ. It also supports Dolby Atmos for heightening sound quality for high-def content.

  • Great voice clarity
    • The soundbar has a dedicated center channel and a dialogue enhancement feature that provides extraordinarily accurate and clear vocals, which is excellent for TV shows.

  • Deep and accurate bass
    • The soundbar has a dedicated subwoofer that produces a deep rumble and thump that’s good both for bass-heavy music and producing great sound effects for action movies. Additionally, the soundbar allows users to tweak bass levels to suit their preferences.

  • Many smart features and wireless connectivity
    • Users can connect their phones to the SmartThings app, where they can use their phones to adjust sound levels and navigate controls. It also has excellent wireless connectivity options, including Bluetooth, Wi-Fi connectivity, and Spotify Connect.

  • Outstanding latency
    • The soundbar syncs audio and video well, making it great for dialogue-heavy content. It tests in at a 13 ms latency, putting it at the top of the category.

Reason to Avoid

  • Limited surround and height performance
    • The bar lacks surround speakers. Instead, it uses side-firing speakers that project sound off of the wall. The result is a less immersive sound and lower accuracy.

  • Frustrating display
    • The display is small and located on top of the display. It only shows limited text and is only visible when standing over the soundbar.

The Samsung HW-Q900A soundbar is effectively a newer/revised version of the Samsung HW-Q900T, and despite both having a 7.1.2 channel speaker setup, the former model provides a broader soundstage with better Dolby Atmos performance. The HW-Q900A also supports Apple AirPlay 2.0, and unlike the HW-Q900T, it comes with many automatic room correction features.
