The Samsung HW-Q60R is a well-priced offering for users whose only priority is good audio output across various types of content, as it misses out on a heavy bass output and varied forms of wireless connectivity.

Overview

The Samsung HW-Q60R is an entry-level sound system first made available in 2018. It has decent bass levels, but they may still not impress the kind of user that would appreciate a deep, thumpy response.

It also doesn’t support Dolby Atmos, and its narrow soundstage makes it difficult to establish where object sounds are coming from.

The best speakers have Dolby Atmos and a wide soundstage as standard features, and even though the Q60R doesn’t, it still gets quite loud and doesn’t distort at max volume.

While its physical input options are decent (they include three HDMI ports and one AUX port), it can only wirelessly connect to other devices via Bluetooth as it does not support Wi-Fi connectivity, nor is it compatible with Apple AirPlay or Chromecast.

our Verdict

The 5.1-channel Samsung HW-Q60R soundbar offers a well-balanced audio experience for any content, but its wireless subwoofer doesn’t deliver heavy bass, and its wireless connectivity is limited to Bluetooth.

Its surround sound also does not fully replicate cinematic immersion due to a sub-par soundstage and lack of Dolby Atmos support. However, it does get loud, and both vocals and instrumentals are accurately depicted, making it great for dialogue-focused content.

Its port selection is also good, with 1 USB port, 1 Optical Audio In, 1 HDMI ARC, and a Full HDMI In port.

Despite these concerns, the HW-Q60R has a super low tested latency of 56ms over ARC and 76ms over Optical connections for accurate audio-visuals, and this, plus its durable build makes it a great choice for many consumers.

Even though the Samsung HW-Q60R is the predecessor to the HW-Q60T, the Q60R still delivers clearer and more emphasized vocals. Also, the Q60R ships with a Digital Optical Cable, while the Q60T has a HDMI cable. Lastly, the Q60R gets louder than the Q60T, and it also has a companion app, a feature that the Q60T lacks. The Samsung HW-Q60R includes a subwoofer, which the Sonos Arc lacks. In contrast, the Sonos Arc supports Dolby Atmos content and boasts built-in support for voice assistants, and these are both advantages that it has over the HW-Q60R. Still, the HW-Q60R has better input options, as it features an Optical Audio In port, three HDMI ports, and one AUX port, while the Sonos Arc only has one HDMI port.
